More Information
This is the design about which there is the least information; the only extant sample of the fabric measures a mere 24 centimetres square. No records of it exist in the Ascher archive, although it is undoubtedly an Ascher fabric. This sample was acquired directly from Zika Ascher himself,  among many other Ascher fabrics designed by Moore that were selected for the Foundation’s collection in 1990 by David Mitchinson. He recalled that during his visit to Casa Maria, Ascher’s house in the middle of Hampstead Heath in London, Ascher disappeared into a spiral stairwell hidden behind a grand piano in the ballroom, which led into an enormous basement filled with artist-designed fabrics, including many by Moore.
