This letter written from France to his school friend Albert Wainwright 'after the Armistice was signed', indicates that Moore had made the common mistake of dating a January letter to the previous year. The sketch on the recto portrays Moore's French landlady, Madam Caron, at her sewing machine; that on the verso Madam Caron with another soldier, Allen, who was trying to speak French.
