More Information

Second Shelter Sketchbook p.3. The Central Line of the London Underground system was being extended eastwards beyond Liverpool Street station, the railway terminal used by Moore when travelling to London from Hertfordshire. Work on the new tunnel had been finished though the rails were not laid when it was colonised by people using it as a shelter during air-raids.
