More Information

This drawing was originally dated 1938, as in the early editions of Henry Moore: Sculpture and Drawings and Clark (1974) plate 180, but was subsequently altered to 1939. The reason for this alteration is unknown, but may have been because the form lower right is of Reclining Figure LH 204 which is dated 1939. Moore appears to have changed his usual technique, applying the wash first, then using pencil, coloured crayons and charcoal which he rubbed in certain areas and rewashed with brush and water, finally adding black wax crayon in his sectional-line method of drawing.
