More Information
The reclining figure is a combination of two of Moore's sculptures, LH 204 and 210, both completed in 1939, whilst  the half-figure  resting on her elbows  behind a parapet calls to mind portraits by Giovanni Bellini (1430-1516) and Titian (c.1488-1576) of their contemporaries or of Madonnas. The background, seeming to deny space, recalls drawings done in 1933 such as HMF 1012 and 101.
