More Information
This page contains both the sketch for Reclining Figure LH 202 and the preliminary idea for HMF 1441, both of 1939, together with vignettes of sculpture, cows and sheep set in huge landscapes, most with very high horizons - one, entitled wide expanse of sky, immediately brings to mind seventeenth-century Dutch landscape painters and also Eugène Bondin two centuries later. On the verso is a small sketch under which is written '& a much coloured one like Geoff's', a reference to HMF 1320 which was in the collection of Geoffrey Grigson. See also comment on HMF 1337.
