More Information

Most unusually, in this drawing Moore drew in black crayon over the wash in order to intensify the black. The drawing is based on the upper sketch in HMF 1277 and the pencil sketches upper centre right in HMF 1183. Kenneth Clark, the drawing's original owner, had bought two works in 1928 at Moore's first one-man show at the Warren Gallery, London. The two men did not meet until 1938, though Clark acquired several other works by Moore in the intervening decade.
