Moore probably carried this sketchbook with him on visits to the British Museum. The source of the artefact on the recto has not been indentified, but the verso sketches are after drawings by Michelangelo of between 1550 and 1560: the Virgin Annunciate (BM W.71) and studies of legs (BM W.73).
