This figure has some affinities with tribal carving, and may be linked with the kneeling figure in HMF 79(85). The Moores began collecting tribal art in the late 1940s and in later years Moore made studies of some pieces in the collection, such as the Mumuye carving in HMF 83(8), 83(9) and 83(41).
