Description: The first monograph on Henry Moore: an attractively designed book produced by Lund Humphries, with a brief biographical note, photographs of six Drawings 1928-1933 and 32 carved Sculptures 1924-1933. There is also a frontispiece photograph of Henry Moore with Mother and Child, 1932 green Hornton stone. In his introduction Read outlines some of the problems of sculpture and the distinction between carving and modelling. A quotation from Henry Moore sets out the connection in his work between drawing and carving. The importance of Natural forms to Moore is stressed, and his application of them to his carvings. Finally Read recommends an unfailing integrity of purpose in the life of an original artist, and finishes with the sentence: There has been no compromise in the life of Henry Moore and now in the fullness of his powers he offers us the perfected product of his genius."
