More InformationShort letter relating Moore's views on the Elgin Marbles to Sir William Hayter when he was a Trustee of the British Museum. Moore was against their return to Greece, saying It's architects who want to push sculptures up into the air where no one can see them. Sculptors like them to be on the ground where people can see them properly and preferably touch them."
In a follow-up letter captioned Henry Moore Out of Touch Professor Robert Browning suggests that sculpture should be left where the artist placed it. Probably Observer 19 July 1987 (but labelled 12.7.87)."
